Why New Years resolutions Don’t work.
It’s that time of year again! To make those New Years Resolutions that you will follow for approximately 3 weeks and then drop it like a bad habit. Then rinse, repeat the following year, and so on and on. All year we try to pick it up again. but it just doesn’t seem to stick! I don’t want to come across as a pessimist, there are some people whom are able to positively influence their lives by jotting yearly goals on a piece of paper, but let’s be honest here-there is not many who do that well.
What you focus on, you attract more of.
I’m sure you have heard about the laws of attraction before. Probably at your local yoga studio or by following the wise words of your favorite “self-help” guru. Super simple, what you resist, persists. The easiest way to put it is in this formula:
Think about the Positive = Positive Results
Think about the Negative = Negative Results.
Therefore, if you are in a mindset of scarcity, lack, self-hate, guilt, resentment and/or fear when you write your New years resolutions-you will attract more of the same results that you have always been getting. Energy speaking, when you are in moments of feeling low about yourself (for example, not being able to stick to a new years resolution) you are vibrating at a very low frequency. We don’t have much motivation or will to do anything when all we are focusing on is what is wrong with us or what we want to change! Quit the judgement on yourself or others, and quit feeding the beast of negativity. Stop it in it’s tracks and focus more on a positive state of abundance.
Instead of focusing on what you want to change, focus more on what you want to create!
Start from an abundance Mindset
Be careful of your thoughts, for your thoughts become your words; Be careful of your words, for your words become your actions; Be careful of your actions, for your actions become your habits; Be careful of your habits, for your habits become your character; Be careful of your character, for your character becomes your destiny. — Chinese proverb, author unknown
Do you ever notice that when you are feeling good, more good things tend to happen? If you are in a state of abundance, your energy is vibrating high-attracting more good into your life. Re think your own thoughts, and create them from a state of abundance, compassion, joy, love, and gratitude. Embodying this attitude will raise your frequency and attract the people and opportunities that will take you in the direction that you want to go.
Fake it till you Make it
Visualizing the life you want to embody, and feeling the feelings you want to feel is not lying! As long as you are taking action along with your visualization, then it becomes more real life rather than another lame “to-do list”. Dress the part as if you already got that job, envision your body feeling healthier, de-clutter and decorate your house as if you live in the upscale area of town.
Re-write your new years resolutions with a positive mantra or positive intention, and you will be amazed at the mindset shift and the results!
A couple examples:
- Old- I want to lose 15 lbs. NEW- I have a beautiful body, I love my body and my clothes fit perfectly.
- Old- I want to eat healthier. NEW- I feed my body with the healthiest nourishment, I am a living example of healthy eating.
- Old- I want to be better at saving money. NEW- I have an abundance of funds in my bank account, every time I turn around, there is more money in my accounts.
- Old- I hate being single, I want to have someone to love me. NEW- My heart is open, the love of my life adores me.
- Old- I want to be smarter. NEW- I am brilliant, bright and intelligent.
- Old- I want to have more fun in life. NEW- I enjoy life and am open to the limitless possibilities that comes with it.
See what I mean? That simple positive twist can shift your beliefs from thinking there is something to fix, to embodying the exact vibrations that you are wanting to attract.
Setting an intention shifts your attention in the right direction.
Instead of writing a New Years resolution list, write out a daily gratitude list instead. Having a daily gratitude list will help you keep in that state of abundance and joy. Remember that your thoughts and feelings dictate your reality, so if you want to change your reality, you have to change your beliefs. When you think about how awesome life is and how awesome it is that you get to live it- awesome things will start to happen!
