Do you need to be Tech Savvy to be a Digital Nomad?
Tech Savvy – “Well informed about or proficient in the use of modern technology, especially computers.” – Oxford Dictionary
I get asked by people all the time, “you must be really Tech Savvy to get into the lifestyle as a digital nomad”. This actually makes me laugh because honestly that couldn’t be further from the truth…
For anyone who knows me well, knows the term “Tech Savvy” is not my forte! First of all, I actually (finally) just learned how to take a screen shot on my laptop like 2 months ago! Most computer savvy people giggle when I say that! I am still learning how to use my laptop, but at the same time I am also ticking off my bucket list of skills and education that I want to learn, and has all been learned at Q Academy.
Here is a list of the skills that I (a non tech savvy girl) have learned in the past month:
Content Marketing:
Content Marketing is so much more than just writing blogs. trust me! It’s all about creating valuable, relevant and consistent content. I have also learned inbound and outbound marketing, content strategy, and Social Media Optimization.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO):
Content Marketing isn’t going to get you far without SEO knowledge. The SEO expert whom taught me himself Gordon Paterson (Cadence Creative Studio) explains it perfectly, “If the internet is a library, think of Google as the librarian”. The librarian will help you find the book that you are looking for, and Search engine optimization will make that librarian more efficient. Basically, understanding SEO will make content marketing so much more efficient, giving your blogs and content more of a purpose!
Graphic Design:
I have been learning how to use Adobe Creative Cloud such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. I would say that this is the most difficult of them all, lots of attention to detail, as well as there are tons of features to learn. There is so much demand for some skills in graphic design when you are doing digital marketing. This will help you when you are bidding on jobs. Trust me, if a non-tech savvy girl like myself can learn this, you can too!
Video Editing and Vlogging:
This is by far, the most fun skill I have learned sofar. I love being in front of a camera, but now I love being on the other side of the lens as well! Filming and Editing allow you to use your creativity and self-expression all at once. I cannot wait to start making travel Vlogs from the skills that I have learned thanks to Daniel Baker (Guided Films).
If you have the determination to learn, and the patience to learn from your mistakes, you too can share this exact same journey with me!
I look forward to so much more to learn before I set off on my next journey as a digital nomad, traveling the world thanks to my newfound skills and knowledge 🙂
Remember, if I can do it, you can too!
